PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING
Traveling in?
The license needs a plan.
Wisconsin marriage-license applications must be completed in person. The license cannot be obtained online or issued by the Vow House.
Do not plan to arrive Saturday morning and obtain a license before your ceremony. Out-of-state couples should make an earlier trip to Wisconsin or arrive several business days before the wedding.
For couples applying in Polk County:
- Applications are in person and by appointment only.
- The county recommends scheduling at least two weeks before the ceremony.
- The appointment must be scheduled a minimum of four days before the ceremony.
- You must already have your wedding date and officiant arranged.
- County offices operate during weekday business hours.
A Wisconsin marriage license may be used anywhere in Wisconsin for 60 days after issuance. Requirements can change; verify everything with the county issuing your license.

Questions you probably have
Can we write our own vows?+
Absolutely. Exchange personal vows or keep things short and sweet with the ceremony we provide.
Can we bring our own photographer?+
Yes. Photo coverage is included, but you are welcome to bring an additional photographer. They must work within your scheduled ceremony time and the venue guidelines.
Do we need witnesses?+
Wisconsin legal ceremonies require two competent adult witnesses in addition to the officiant. Bring your own or request our witness add-on in advance, subject to availability.
What if we cannot get a marriage license in time?+
We cannot perform a legal marriage without a valid Wisconsin license. Your experience can still take place as a symbolic commitment ceremony, but it will not create a legal marriage.
Can we get ready at the Vow House?+
Couples should arrive dressed and ready unless a getting-ready upgrade is specifically included in their booking.
What if we are late?+
Halloween ceremonies will run on a carefully timed schedule. Arriving late may shorten your experience, and the scheduled ending time cannot be extended.
Is the deposit refundable?+
The $200 deposit is nonrefundable if you cancel, change your mind, change your travel plans, or do not obtain a marriage license. It will only be refunded if the Vow House does not reach the four-couple minimum by September 30, 2026, and the Halloween event does not proceed.
